LA PELLE SCORTICATA: M77

M77 Gallery presents a “scenazione” by Emilio Isgrò, featuring the artist. La pelle scorticata (The flayed skin) is on view at the gallery until December 3, 2016 by a video of the performance that took place on the evenings of Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 October, 2016. In addition to the projection, a large work on canvas is displayed.

La pelle scorticata was presented for the first time in May 2014 at Teatro Metastasio in Prato, as part of the Maledetti toscani, benedetti italiani, cancellazione in tre tempi (Damned Tuscans, blessed Italians, deletion in three acts) project, produced by Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci, the Palazzo Pretorio Museum and Teatro Metastasio Stabile della Toscana.

Maledetti toscani, benedetti italiani was the Sicilian artist’s tribute to one of the most controversial 20th-century Italian writers, Curzio Malaparte, using three separate artistic forms: an exhibition, an art video, and a theatrical performance.

Emilio Isgrò plays the role of the performer and of the Tuscan author. Sicily merges with Tuscany, the Italian language is layered onto Sicilian, the artist deletes his own identity along with that of the writer, mixing roles, times and places.
